Scratch Professional Development
Event Details
When: Thursday May 4th – 4pm to 5pm
Location: Wodonga Senior Secondary College
Presenter: Brendan Freeman – Baranduda Primary School
Who Should Attend
Building community is a big part of running events like this, as such anybody interested in coding is invited. That said, this first session is a basic introduction to Scratch designed in particular for teachers who have little or no experience with a visual (block based) programming language. It is a chance to develop your coding skills in a relaxed and supportive environment, at the same time building a community of coders.
Purpose
The session is designed to be an introduction to MIT’s Scratch – a free, widely used visual programming language perfect for working with students levels 3-6 or as a bridging language for levels 7-8.
Participants will develop simple algorithms and start to work with code that incorporates branching and iteration. Understanding these concepts will help teachers develop units that meet the Creating Digital Solutions strand of the Digital Technology curriculum.
Please RSVP to freeman.brendan.m@edumail.vic.gov.au by the 26th of April. If it is for a group of teachers a list of names and emails should be sent to the same address.
